Help for Helpers

So often as helpers, we don’t give ourselves the time for the support and care necessary for our work to be sustainable.  Taking space for our own support lowers our risk of vicarious trauma as well as improving the quality of work we provide.

Many helpers have their own unresolved childhood grief and trauma.  Healing this makes our work more sustainable by minimizing our re-experiencing related to work, thus increasing our presence with clients.  It also gives us the capacity to help in a way that is unburdened by the family roles helpers have often lived and worked in throughout their lives.
